The brake fluid of general models is mostly DOT4 specification, which is basically a mineral oil-based brake fluid. If there is an additive that suppresses excessive temperature and excessive moisture absorption, the stability of braking performance can be greatly improved.
The brake fluid of DOT5 specification belongs to the brake fluid for racing and is made of high-cost silicone oil base oil. It has strong high temperature resistance and is not easy to absorb water, and can withstand the high temperature brought by powerful braking force.
However, DOT5 specification brake fluid is not suitable for ordinary braking systems, because the silicone oil base will cause corrosion on the brake piston oil seal, brake oil pipe rubber joint and other parts of the brake system, and it will cause the brake fluid to leak and brake. Problems such as a decrease in the piston pressure will cause the brake system to fail to work properly. If daily walking and occasional track days are to be used, it is sufficient to use DOT4.
In fact, many people do not need to change the brakes at all. Only replacing a set of advanced brake pads can solve the problem of insufficient braking force. When changing the brake pads, pay attention to the operating temperature of the brake pads.
